In this tutorial you will learn how to create a image with a transparent background . This technique save computer resources when you have to render tree, plants or people in your project. Just place planes [cards] instead of of real 3d models. The models look reasonably good and transparent area are casting no shadow. This tutorial will describe how you can create this images from 3d models within blender and in another part how you can separate the background from a digital image and make it transparent.
Using Lsystem make your favorite tree and render with Key button selected in Render panel. This will not render any blender background and saving the image as .tga or .png will preserve the transparency. Don't forget the RGBA button in Format panel to activate the alpha data.
This is the procedure for a blender rendering . This image can be mapped on a plane and if the image is square you don't have to adjust the plane which you map the image on, so it keeps the same proportions of the image.
